On 25th June, over 110 people gathered in Paddington for our best event yet. With speakers from across the steel supply chain (clients, engineers, contractors, fabricators, academics) we explored what’s working, what’s changing, and what’s next for steel reuse.
From honest panel debates to fast-paced project bursts and thoughtful morning workshops, the day was packed with ideas, insights and momentum.
Scroll down to see some highlights from the day.
Thank you again to all our speakers, sponsors and attendees who made it possible.

Hear from Louisa Treadwell and Gemima Walker who participated in morning workshops, afternoon panel discussions and project burst presentations.
Explored strategic approaches beyond single-building reuse, addressing portfolio-wide and regional reuse potential. Discussed barriers, policy frameworks, digital solutions (e.g., material passports), and the need for collaborative action for efficient reuse at scale.
Hosted by Elliott Wood
Focused on identifying when and how to choose between reused, recycled, and new steel. The session highlighted the critical need for better end-of-life assessments, improved supply-chain collaboration, and the economic considerations driving steel sourcing decisions.
Examined the technical and logistical challenges of designing structures for future steel reuse, highlighting the importance of modular and flexible designs, better stock management, and clearer standards for reused steel.
Hosted by tERC
Discussed reflections and forward-thinking strategies for steel reuse. Key points included overcoming design-stage supply uncertainties, addressing cost implications, and improving early project planning to align reuse strategies.
Focused on the practicalities of procurement and supply chain coordination, emphasising the need for accurate pre-demolition audits, flexible procurement strategies, and clearer responsibility allocation in steel reuse projects.
Discussed broader industry-wide challenges and opportunities, including client incentives, policy support, heritage considerations, and the importance of pre-deconstruction audits and material passports for enhancing circularity.
