On 25th June, over 110 people gathered in Paddington. With speakers from across the steel supply chain (clients, engineers, contractors, fabricators, academics), we explored what's working, what's changing, and what's next for steel reuse.

Morning Workshops
- Strategic Reuse (hosted by Elliott Wood) — explored strategic approaches beyond single-building reuse, addressing portfolio-wide and regional reuse potential. Discussed barriers, policy frameworks, digital solutions such as material passports, and the need for collaborative action for efficient reuse at scale.
- What is the Right Steel? — focused on identifying when and how to choose between reused, recycled and new steel. Highlighted the need for better end-of-life assessments, improved supply-chain collaboration and the economic considerations driving steel sourcing decisions.
- Designing for Reuse (hosted by tERC) — examined the technical and logistical challenges of designing for future steel reuse: modular and flexible designs, better stock management, clearer standards.
- What Can We Do Better? — overcoming design-stage supply uncertainties, cost implications, and improving early project planning.
- Doing Reuse — the practicalities of procurement and supply chain coordination: accurate pre-demolition audits, flexible procurement, clearer responsibility allocation.
- What Can We Do Better? — broader industry-wide challenges: client incentives, policy support, heritage considerations, pre-deconstruction audits, material passports.
